MARECHIARO GUIDED EXCURSION IN KAYAK (Protected Marine Park Submerged Park of Gaiola)Starting from Marechiaro a small fishing village the kayak excursion allows you to reach the submerged park of Gaiola (marine protected area) continuing navigation we find the remains of a Roman building called the Palazzo degli Spiriti, which some also call the Villa of Virgil, claiming that the spirit of the Poet was manifested from time to time and swearing that he had heard his verses declaim from a mysterious voice. In fact, Virgil really stayed at Pousilypon, in the villa built at the extreme point of Posillipo by Publius Vedio Pollione, a very rich and intimate friend of the emperor Augustus, a grandiose complex, wide and articulated, whose structures spread between Marechiaro and the Cala di Trentaremi.Soon after we find the Gaiola fronted by three small islands, the largest of which is Gaiola. In front of the islet as well as the statue of St. Francis, patron saint of the island, on the rock according to an ancient and deeply rooted tradition we find the ruins that can be seen on the nearby Gaiola beach are still known as the "Virgilio School".Soon after we find the caves dug in the coast by the force of the waves, the largest is the Grotta dei Tuoni, so called for the noise that the surf produces within its walls.A high cave is called Grotta dei Coralli, always sailing towards the extreme tip of Cape Posillipo, called the horse, the tuff block opens up offering the vision of the grandiose natural amphitheater of Trentaremi, an impressive vision for its width and height of the yellow tuff walls overlooking the sea. Finally returning to Marechiaro we stop to admire the famous Fenestella di Marechiaro, a poem by Salvatore di Giacomo musicated by Tosti, remembered by a plaque in a house near the cliff.
